There’s a meeting today!
Come by the One O’Clock Lounge at 5pm.
We’re going to be brainstorming on campaigns, officer positioning, and so on.
Anyone is welcome.
Benefits: Fair labor conditions, fair price, direct trade, community development, environmental sustainability, and lots more.
In our Not in Harry’s Name campaign, we want to make sure that our chocolate frogs don’t come as a result of child slavery, something that does happen and something that Warner Bros. hasn’t done anything to correct.
Certifiable: Coffee, tea, herbs, cocoa, chocolate, fresh fruit, sugar, rice, vanilla, flowers, and honey can all be Fair Trade Certified in the US. It’s products, not companies, that are certified, and handicrafts aren’t certifiable… yet.
Fun fact: Though far too many companies have not made their products fair trade where possible, there are also those that have. If you’ve ever enjoyed some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, for example, you’re supporting a company that’s been making the transition since 2005!
They were actually the first ice cream company to use Fair Trade ingredients. Cool, right? Though they’re not fully transitioned yet, they’re making the changes and definitely helping the cause. By holding no secrets about what is and is not Fair Trade in their products, they’re also exhibiting one of the things vital to Fair Trade and one of the things Warner Bros. haven’t shown much of: honest transparency.
In short, we need to make sure that the products that make us feel like we’re doing this:
aren’t taking advantage of children in a way that reminds us of something this guy:
would do.
Any questions? Comments? Send us an owl!

Bring it to the meeting on Sunday!
We’re excited to see what you want us to do this semester!
